Christmas has been celebrated for around 2 millenia. I want to look at the meaning of Christmas in today's context. I am sure that there is a difference in opinion and different answers to this question on Christmas. Some people may answer that the meaning of Christmas is to be found in buying and exchanging gifts. Others may argue that the meaning of Christmas is vested in setting and arranging a festive meal. Certain people may find the meaning of Christmas by doing good for others.
All the above-mentioned answers can be right and good, but that is based on who you are, and where you are. As a Catholic, let us search the meaning for Christmas from the Gospels of Mathew and Luke. (Mt.1:18-25), (Lk. 2:1-7). These two Gospels declare that Christmas is a proclamation of peace, sacredness, salvation, justice, and truth for all people of every time and place. As we are living in the 21st century, are we aware that the Biblical meaning of the Christ has been diminished by mass culture and the demands of marketplaces?
So, as a parish community I would like to pay attention to families; the meaning of Christmas is the assurance of God’s love. For families experiencing pain from broken relationships, in despair, can find meaning of life through Christmas as God’s loving presence which is an assurance of hope and blessings as experienced by shepherds. Today the world is packed with ideas, technology and is convinced that intelligence can control everything. So, let us think about the wise men in the Gospel from the East. They were intelligent who totally relied on their own knowledge, their own abilities to discern the meaning of Christmas. They thought they knew it all, yet they wandered through wrong places. Wandering in the wrong places is the evil of this world.
In the final installment of the "Family Fully Alive" series, Fr. Pinto Paul talks about how to make our families alive by experiencing the joy of the birth of baby Jesus and sharing this joy across our families and communities...

Children of our church will be performing a medley of carols after the Christmas Qurbana, on the 24th of December. We are requesting parents of kids from all grades to have their kids sign-up for this event. We expect practice to be for 15-20 mins after every Sunday English Qurbana with an additional quick online practice on Thursday the 23rd. We also hope that the parents will help children practice daily. There will be some costume expense, but we don't anticipate it to cost more than $15 per child.
If you are interested in having your child participate, please contact Smita Sam.

Solace is a charity organization in Kerala that supports children suffering from terminal illnesses such as cancer. Nearly 5% of cancer patients in Kerala are kids below 14. Solace cares for 2400+ of them through in-house help and at Solace regional centers. In most of the cases registered with Solace, the families of the children are deeply affected and their lives revolve around providing care for the ill child. Paternal assistance is often minimal, and it is the mothers who struggle to make both ends meet. Solace helps by providing prescribed medicines, funds for special treatments like chemotherapy, radiation therapy, etc. Solace volunteers care for the kid as a family member would do, sharing the pain, and working to find positive solutions.
