Highlights

The years - 2013 & 2014 were very special for our Parish community. We introduced two Sunday Masses - 10:00 AM in Malayalam and 11:30 AM in English Mass for children, established new snow-ploughing and lawn maintenance contracts, and continued with the maintenance work for the church and the rectory. Our Parish started growing. We added a new Family unit - Saint Alphonsa, which included new and young families. We took a trip to Philadelphia to see the Moses - “Sight and Sound” show and visit the Hershey Park.

Challenges

Within 2 months of the new Parish council taking charge, our Parish priest Fr. Varghese was transferred to India and a new priest Fr. Mathew Pothalil came from India to take charge. With this unexpected change, we faced some logistical challenges thus causing a temporary setback in communicating with the wider Parish community. These issues were quickly alleviated by the grace of God!

In 2013, we struggled to find a steady stream of income for the building and parking lot maintenance since we did not see a significant increase in community donations and church memberships as we had expected. We also faced problems with conducting two Qurbanas with Malayalam mass for adults and English Mass for children. We did not have sufficient prayer books for the English Mass. In addition to this, the community was divided over the issue on whether one service in Malayalam was enough for both adults and children.
