SMCB Times - Revive2022

Neha Joseph, our Youth Reporter brings us a report on SYNC 2022: REVIVE - Syro-Malabar Youth Northeast Conference (SYNC) event. The theme for the conference was Revive, centered on the passage below: “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, and strengthen you.” 1 Peter 5:10

The purpose of this gathering was to revive our youth spiritually and to build and foster unity among Syro-Malabar youth in the region. The conference was attended by youth from our church led by Alina and Alfonse Thopurathu.

Hi everyone, I’m Neha Joseph. I’m currently a youth coordinator and I went to the regional conference in July. This was my second time going to a retreat and it was so much fun. I was able to see people that I met last time and to meet even more people. The youth conference is a great way to meet people who are just like us, who share the same culture as us. It’s nice to be able to see how many syro malabarians there are in the Northeast region. It reminds us that we are not alone.

During the conference, I was able to be part of the regional choir. The choir consists of people from all the churches in the Northeast. There were two practices leading up to the event. It was really nice being able to sing with everyone and lead the songs. It’s a different type of feeling jamming out with everyone in the name of God. Everyone is there for one purpose and it’s really refreshing to see.

One of my favorite moments from the retreat were the bonfire and adoration. Adoration was a good hour and half, and it was in English. You could really feel the Holy Spirit come into you and be with you. It was an eye-opening experience.

The second night bonfire was by far the most memorable night. A couple of people were playing instruments and everyone was singing and dancing to Indian music. As someone who exclusively listens to Indian music, it was great finding people who actually knew the songs and sing along.

The conference ending was a bittersweet feeling. I was sad that I had to say bye to all my friends, but I felt revived and fresh. I felt Jesus’s presence and love. It’s a feeling that I never want to lose. I’m very excited for the next one, whenever it is, I hope it’s soon. I also hope more of the youth is able to join for the next one.
