I hope that this edition of SCMB Times finds you all in good health. Summer is ending and I am sure that all of you had a good time together. The kids will be going back to school soon, with a twist ofcourse, but it will be surely just as much fun. We are starting our Catechism Classes this month. The classes will be online until December 31, 2020. May I humbly request everyone's cooperation to assist our children in their journey of faith formation.
The month of August was absolutely delightful. I say delightful because we gathered to celebrate not only the Assumption of Blessed Mother and wish India her Independence day, but also to witness and welcome 7 new angels into our midst, with the Holy Communion of Austin K Ajai, Gabriel Joseph Jose, Joshua Jose Kannalil, Michael Joseph, Nile Joseph Kantamkulathy, Rhea Maria Valantra, and Rian K Sebastian. Congratulations to all of them and special thanks to their families as well as the CCD teachers and Rev. Sisters.
Organizing the Communion Qurbana was something that I would like to call out as an event that all of us should be proud of, as a community. Given the restrictions and the state guidelines around gatherings, we had to be extra cautious to ensure the safety of the kids and all the parishioners who were planning to attend it. This was an event that many extended families of our parishioners, were able to attend because of the livestreaming ( 989 views ) by our SMCB Communication Team.
This edition of SMCB Times is dedicated to our Mother Mary. We have featured 3 beautiful videos from the youth in our Parish who have dedicated their renditions of our Blessed Mother's Hymns for all of us. Also, featured are the fruits of labor of parishioners who tended to their gardens and their pride as they receive the bounty.
We start the month of September with the “Ettu Nombu” or the Eight Day abstinence as a solemn remembrance of Mother Mary’s birthday. As a Syrian Catholic, the Ettu Nombu is integral to our veneration of Mother Mary. This year, our special intention for the "Ettu Nombu" and first Friday fasting, is the COVID 19 pandemic, as requested by our Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alencherry and the synod of Bishops. Let us remember all those who lost their lives and their families, all the infected and the affected, all the care-givers, research workers and frontline workers all over the world.
Just as Blessed Mother has kept us all together during this time of tribulation, she will continue to be our guide and protector.
May God bless you all
Tony Achan
