Maria Johnson, our outgoing church youth president reflects on the youth initiatives that were held during her tenure.
Hi! I’m Maria. I enjoy hanging out with my family and friends and also good food. I’ve been a member of the Boston Syro community since 2006.
As my time as Youth president comes to an end, I can’t help but look back at all of the great moments we had together these past few years. Being a long-standing member of our church youth has gifted me with many amazing experiences. From organizing fundraisers, to the best way to sweeten up an auntie or uncle I’ve learned many lessons during these past few years. One of the greatest joys of being a part of the community has been the friendships built over being part first generation Syro-Malabar diaspora. Having a go-to group of people who already knew made many of life’s growing pains not so painful. As I move on from this role I hope to see these connections continue through the generations.
Even though most of my time as president was during the pandemic, looking back we did so much!
It was a very beautiful moment to see our church come together with college, school and personal items for the children of Haiti in the fall of 2019. Being a part of church has always been a great way to give back to those less fortunate.
A really fun part has been coming up with creative skits, events, and other moments together. It’s always a blast to see what we can come up with. Making the music video was a really fun way to come together and create, even though no one physically came together.
