As India grapples with the COVID-19 crisis, three young members of our community - Sophia Joseph, Elizabeth Joseph and Diya Sebastian have partnered with SaveLIFE Foundation USA to raise funds for providing care and emergency supplies in the country. Here, they share the link to the fundraiser and also tell you what inspired them to step up to rally support for this cause.
My name is Sophia Joseph and I am a 6th grader. Since last year when the Pandemic began, everything has changed. I tried to understand as much information as I could about the Coronavirus like how it spreads and how I can keep myself and others safe. I followed the Coronavirus news and updates all over the world particularly India and the US. Over the last few weeks, we saw a second surge in India. I saw how people were suffering with lack of oxygen and beds and essential supplies. Lot of family and friends in India started getting affected.
My sister and I were very sad, looking at the pictures that were on the news about the situation in India. We brainstormed for ideas with our parents and talked about raising funds for India.
We are partnering with SaveLIFE Foundation USA that supports India’s Coronavirus Relief.
My name is Elizabeth Joseph, and I am a Sophomore in High School. As we know, the pandemic has changed our lives and our world. It has impacted so many lives and led to so much suffering in the world.
Most recently, there has been a second surge of COVID infections in India. We were watching and reading the news from India and my first instinct was – “I wish I could go there and help.” I know that is not possible right now. It is heartbreaking to witness the pain and trauma occurring in our home country. Watching this, I felt inspired to help, even if in a small way.
I decided to partner with my sister Sophia and friend Diya to start a fundraiser through which the proceeds would go to the COVID relief in India. We choose the organization called SaveLIFE Foundation which will aid India with ICU beds, ambulances, ventilators, and PPE kits. Being a part of change and helping those in need has always motivated me. Please contribute generously and spread the word to your friends and family.
My name is Diya Sebastian, I’m a sophomore in high school right now and I’ve always been interested in helping people from all walks of life. However, I always try not to let issues affect me too much.
Once I heard about the ongoing crisis in India, I couldn’t help feeling overwhelmed. Once Elizabeth came to me and talked to me about fundraising, I was onboard immediately. I thought it was a brilliant idea and it was a great way to help, despite being in a different country. I had felt kind of helpless, because being a teenager leaves you without many opportunities to help others in a meaningful way.
I wanted to be part of this because Save Life Foundation has already made such a great impact in India, especially during the pandemic. They’ve helped supply so many items and they organize a lot to help and run things smoothly for hospitals which I found incredibly admirable. I hope that other people will feel the same way and help us reach our goal so we can make a difference, no matter how small it may be.
