In 2006, Johnson Job walked into the Fernald Chapel to partake in the Syro-Malabar Qurbana, for the first time since he moved to Boston. Now, 15 years later, he looks back at the early years he spent in SMCB with his young family, and taking up leadership roles within the CCD program along the way.
Johnson Job and family have been members of the SMCB community since 2006.
He has been involved with our CCD program since 2007. Johnson held the position of Director of Religious Education(DRE) twice - from Sept. 2010 to May 2014 and a second term from Sept. 2018 to May 2021. Johnson lives in Shrewsbury, with wife Rosely and daughters Maria and Sarah.
It was in the summer of 2006 that I had taken up a job at a company in Marlborough, MA and my family moved to Shrewsbury from Harrisburg, PA. Being an active participant in Syro-Malabar community or the liturgy was not something I had even thought about until my brother, introduced me to the community at the church summer picnic of 2006.
We were told that every Sunday, Syro-Malabar Qurbana was celebrated at Fernald Chapel. We wanted to give it a try for some time, although the drive from Shrewsbury to Waltham every Sunday took close to one hour. As time went on and summer became fall, CCD classes started and we enrolled our children, Maria in the 4th grade and Sarah in pre-K. The thought at that time was that we would try this for a year.
Fr. Tony and Johnson - CCD Graduation 2018
During the past 15 years, both my daughters graduated from the CCD program. I have taught CCD for 7 years and have been part of the team that led the CCD program for 7 years. These years have transformed me and have made me the person I am today.
The CCD program has transformed for the better over these years. It has a very good structure now that can easily adapt to changes. An excellent support system has been developed and is available at the Diocesan level. At our Parish, we have a number of able volunteers who devote a lot of time to teaching and other support activities of the CCD program. There is a core group in our Parish who strive to bring valuable changes to the CCD program so that the program is relevant to the children now. New methods of teaching and supplemental activities and topics have been introduced by the teachers to stay current and relevant.

As I move out of the CCD program I wish and pray that more volunteers will join the program in various capacities. Whether it is to teach or to act as resource personnel for a supplemental class or just to help where needed or to be an active parent. If parents stay engaged, the CCD program will reap its benefits that will be reflected in the next generation of our community.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all who have helped me in carrying out my duties as a Director of Religious Education for our community.
Aside from CCD responsibilities, Johnson is also known for his excellent acting.
