Jenson Kaithamattam is a senior at University of Massachusetts, Amherst pursuing a degree in Public Health Sciences. With a heart to serve, there is no doubt that he will go a long way. Jenson is a role model to young and old alike - A single act of kindness can ripple through your communities.
Today's world is one that is very different from the one we knew just months ago. During our time of self-isolation and quarantining we are unable to offer a hug or a physical sense of support to the healthcare workers in our community. It can be difficult to show our appreciation to those who work so hard to keep us safe.
In order to find a way to offer his support, Jenson Kaithamattam, a member of our SMCB community and a college student in his final year at UMass Amherst has set up the GoFundMe initiative "A Helping Hand For Healthcare Heroes". The fundraiser hopes to assist and show appreciation by providing meals to hospitals and nursing homes in the Greater Boston area. The meals are supplied by local restaurants, thereby supporting local businesses as well. "A Helping Hand For Healthcare Heroes" has helped make a difference in the communities of Peabody, Beverly, and Winchester, to name a few.
The numbers speak for themselves!
Over $2,000 raised
446 - Meals and snacks delivered
8 - Nursing homes and hospitals
7 - local restaurants
This was possible only through the whole hearted support of Jenson's family and friends, many of whom are part of the SMCB community. The lockdown may be lifted. However, let’s not forget that the front line community still needs our assistance, as new coronavirus cases are being identified daily.
So, please send in your donations. Even a small donation can make a difference!
Things took an interesting turn for this young man, just as he was settling down in Seville, Spain - excited to spend the final year of his undergraduate program in Europe. His plans were cut short by early March when the world was spiralling down amidst the Coronavirus outbreak. On March 14th, Jenson returned home to see everything and everyone he knew, caught in the grips of the virus. Jenson’s mother, Sheela Kaithamattam, is a Nurse Practitioner, while Jenson himself worked as Nurse's assistant in a nearby nursing home prior to his departure. His last year may not have gone to plan, but that did not stop him from thinking how he could help out! Despite the shelter-in-place directive, Jenson knew he had great resources at his disposal - Technology and Backing of family and friends. This led to the birth of his crowdfunding project, which went live on April 1st - within 20 days of his arrival back in the US.
