A word from two of our recent graduates - who balance college, work and family life!
As you prepare yourself to face the next chapter as a Graduate of 2020, what are your thoughts?
For me, graduating during the pandemic came with its own set of uncertainties. However, I believe that there is a purpose for all the detours and delays. Therefore, I am learning to adapt to the situation.
Most importantly, I am holding on to this verse from the Bible to keep me going:
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phil. 4:13
The Master of Science in Nursing Leadership degree has empowered me to renew my passion for teaching. As a child I would often imitate my parents, who were teachers, walking around in a saree with a stick in my hand and pretending to teach plants and bushes near my house. I now teach nursing students in addition to my primary responsibilities as a registered nurse. I believe this advanced degree opens up opportunities that previously seemed beyond my reach.
2. If you could give one piece of encouragement/advice to those aspiring to pursue a higher degree, while balancing work and family responsibilities...
I have three things to share with all those who want to pursue a higher degree...
It is doable.
Find people who did it before you. I had a couple of them, they were my "go-to people", my role models.
Yes, it can be challenging and stressful at times to balance it all, but take one day at a time, celebrate your small wins, and focus on the end result. That feeling of accomplishment is priceless!
To quote Robert Frost “Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence.” I firmly believe in the old saying that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. My sincere advice:
Continuously seek opportunities to improve your current situation
Be patient; there will be many barriers, but do not let that stop your pursuit
Once you grab the opportunity, work hard and the other ingredients will align by itself
