Johnson Job is Director of Religious Education at St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Boston. He has been involved with our CCD program since 2007. He has been a member of our church since 2006.
Over the summer the high school teachers, Don Francis, Ranit James, Joseph Kunnel, Christina Joseph, Paul Joseph, Vinita Dennis, Roger George and Jerril Varghese along with Johnson Job and Fr. Tony came together for the following purpose: -
Make CCD interesting for the students
Bring awareness about the benefits of CCD programs to the parents and students
Kunjumol Benny, a professional teacher of our parish, was tapped as a resource to help the teachers prepare lesson plans
The need was felt to provide media support and writing boards in all high school classrooms to make classes more effective
Several activities were also planned for each grade to provide the high school students more opportunity to support the normal functions of the parish, fundraising and volunteering
A high school retreat is also planned during spring vacation. Diocesan Youth Apostolate team and seminarians guided by Fr. Paul Chalissery, has agreed to direct this retreat.
The CCD program requires 14 classrooms with proper ambience for effectiveness.

The teachers felt the need for 3 additional classrooms so that the current class rooms on stage, green room and rectory dining room can be avoided.
Teachers training was conducted on 1st of September 2019. Fr. George Danavelil, director CCD for the diocese of Chicago, animated it and gave the teachers an overview of all the text books and the diocesan plans for CCD.
The CCD academic year for 2019-20 started on the 8th of September, with a prayer, blessing of students and books by vicar Fr. Tony, followed by the introduction of teachers in the church. The teachers for this year are Ruby Cyril, Annu Thomas, Jeethu Jose, Nisha Unni, Brighty Roshan, Vincy M C, Smitha Joji , Elsie Vithayathil, Tessmol George, Tresa Francis, Sr. Lincy, Vinitha Antony, Jeffia Varghese, Sr. Angela, Chinnamma Mathew, Prabha Linto, Laly Thomas, Depin R S, Renjith Thomas, Roshan George, Louis Mechery, Paul Joseph, Vinita Dennis, Jerril Varghese, Roger George, Joseph Kunnel, Christina Joseph, Ranit James, Don Francis. Johnson Job is the director CCD and other support staff are Pauly Konikara, Benny Thomas, Joyce Paul and Tomy Abraham.
The 11th and 12th grade students participated as Teacher’s Assistance for lower grades during the Holy Qurbana and in classes during their assigned weekends.
Catechetical Sunday was celebrated on 15th September 2019. Eucharistic adoration was organized after lunch to pray for all teachers and students by individually naming each of them.
October Rosary: CCD Students led the Rosary prayer during the October Rosary Month.
In November 2020, Grade 10 with help of the youth of our parish and some Jesus youth members collected and packed a number of gifts for the children of Haiti. Lumen Vitae is a Jesus Youth initiative.

A High School was planned during spring vacation, from April 17th 2020 to April 19th 2020. High School Teachers along with the help of Decon Melvin Paul. An innovative bake sale with ‘Thattukada’ was organized to cover a small portion of the cost of the retreat. Thanks to the organizers, especially the high school students.

The Covid 19 Pandemic ended our face to face CCD classes for the year in the second week of March. Our dedicated teachers were able to quickly learn and use the available technology to transform themselves into online teachers. Parents were also on hand to help and complete the CCD year 2019-2020.
