Dear friends,
I hope that all of you are well.
Since it is a time to say goodbye to the year 2020, many of us are concerned about how to evaluate and assess our past year. Some of us had gone through struggles of pandemic, others were hurt due to loss of their loved ones, and also many are saddened due to their unfulfilled dreams. In this unfavorable situation is it possible for us to look back and find positives.? 2020 was a year of constant struggle, and daunting challenges. It can be considered as a great blessing and or miracle if we were able manage to stay healthy physically, emotionally and spiritually. Today I would like to reflect on the words of the proverbs 16:1 “We may make our plans, but God has the last word.” The year of 2020 literally fulfilled these words of the proverbs for each one of us.
Spiritually speaking this year is a year of great importance, as it is proclaimed as the “Year of St Joseph” by Pope Francis. It is the 150th anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. Saint Joseph, in fact, “concretely expressed his fatherhood” by making an offering of himself in love “a love placed at the service of the Messiah who was growing to maturity in his home, “This year we must focus on the spirituality of St. Joseph, who always listened to the voice of the God and maintained silent obedience to the Will of God at all times as a father of the Holy family. The gospel witnesses that, St. Joseph travelled through in-between light and shadows, but was humble enough to follow God’s plan at every moment of his life. Cardinal Robert Sarah wrote “Without silence, God disappears in the noise. And the noise becomes even more obsessive because God is absent. Unless the world rediscovers silence, it is lost. How can we muffle the increasing din?” .We should “Go to Joseph” the silent, strong saint who teaches us by example. It is amazing that this greatest saint second to the Blessed Virgin Mary did not utter one single word in the New Testament, but God did speak to him through his dreams and he had the greatest responsibility to be the father of the Savior.
My dear parish community it is my wish that we should try to follow the footsteps of St. Joseph in a very special way during the year of 2021. We should plan to mediate upon his silence and personality, let us ask the grace of the Holy Spirit and make a humble prayer every day to St. Joseph who is the protector of families.
May God bless us, and St. Joseph protect us.
I wish all of you a Happy and blessed New Year.
