Welcome to the August Edition,
As our church prepares to celebrate St. Alphonsa's feast day tomorrow, we have a pilgrim's tale for you bringing you closer to the times when the beloved Saint spent her time as a nun, in a little town in Kottayam. Father Stephen writes about the tragic passing of Fr. Stan Swamy who was hailed as the 'Martyr of the marginalized'. Pinto Achan brings you another chapter in the 'Family Fully Alive' series. Our high school reporter presents a discussion on the much familiar 'stereotypes' prevalent in our schools and elsewhere.
With the kids at home for the summer, it does get a little busy for many of us. Let's put those tiny hands to work - a sibling duo will inspire you! It is busy at church too, with DRE updates and a brand new team at the helm of our CCD program. We have a perfect recipe for a rainy day - one which will take us right back to our homes in Kerala. So will the pictures of a parishioner's beautiful home garden.
In this edition, we announce the winners of the SMCB Church History Quiz. Thank you everyone for sending your responses! While you scroll down, don't miss out on the details of the summer picnic, a much awaited community event after the year we've had.
Happy Reading!

Dear Readers, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on the death of Fr. Stan Swamy - a Jesuit priest, who was arrested under false charges and died a prisoner. He lived and died, defending his Christian faith. He spoke words of hope until the very end.
Fr. Pinto Paul, continues his series on "Family Fully Alive". This time, Pinto Achan shares his thoughts on how we can open our homes and our hearts to others and be hospitable and warm towards them.

In this edition, Neha Joseph (SMCB Times High school Reporter) discusses the prevalent notion of 'stereotypes' with her friends. This is widely seen in our schools and communities, wherein people have pre-conceived notions about others based on ethnicity and appearance. This is usually a source of confusion and stress amongst our children and leads to burn out in many cases. See the video to hear this group's experiences with stereotyping!
The blooms from Paul Mechery's garden are a sight to behold! Enjoy these beauties in their varied colors and forms!
