A circular of our Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alencherry on this years Ettunompu
Below is an excerpt from the circular
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
This is to inform you of an important decision taken by our Synod which was held from 18 to 21 August. The Circular communicating the general discussions and decisions of the Synod will be sent shortly.
Our Church has been observing the Eight Days of Lent with great fervor in recent years. In these times when the Covid is raging with great intensity, it was decided by the Synod that the Syro Malabar Church should observe this year’s Ettunombu with great zeal and commitment. Hence all the faithful are requested to pray fervently so that the world is saved from the grip of this contagion. It goes without saying that all have to abstain from meat, fish and such other food items, as you decide.
In addition to this, on the Friday of this Lent (04 September 2020) all are requested to fast for this intention. On that day, all the bishops and priests (diocesan, and the religious) should offer the holy Qurbana beseeching the Mercy of God so that the world overcomes the raging pandemic. It should be so arranged that all faithful participate in this Holy Qurbana, one way or the other. Thus the whole Church should assemble as one body praying for this intention and we can be sure that our prayers will be heard and God’s Mercy will protect us all. Let us celebrate the Birthday of our Blessed Mother befittingly.
