Each passing edition of the SMCB Times is a reminder of a month that is well spent.
October was the month of “Feast of the Holy Rosary”, in which we had our 10 day devotion to the Holy Rosary from the 22nd. We concluded this spectacular month with special blessings, I am referring to the beautiful snow we received in New England.
The next to last Sunday of October is when we as a community celebrate Mission Sunday. This day is celebrated as the feast of catholicity and universal solidarity, so that we recognize our common responsibility about the evangelization of the world. Special thanks to you all for your prayers and contributions towards Mission Sunday. It’s your support such as this that keeps this community and our diocese active.
As a Mission diocese we are in need of a house for our Seminarians and Priests. To accommodate them, the diocese is planning to build an “Annex Building to the Bishop’s House”. May I also request your support for this project which will be a great support for the future of our diocese.
In October, our church witnessed and hosted, the marriage ceremony of Maria and Matts. The details of the wedding and their journey are featured in our beautiful Spotlight article.
The Parish Council unanimously agreed to set up the St. Joseph’s Ministry with the primary goal of supporting some of the Church’s maintenance needs with that of the skilled tradesmen in our community. The Parish Council also unanimously selected Sunny John to be the first President of this Ministry.
November is the month when we give thanks to all the bounties, blessings and graces that we have received.
The 1st day of the month is for us to pray and give glory to God for All the Saints who have guided and protected us. We also remember all our dear departed souls on the 2nd day of the month. We will have Qurbana at 7 PM on Nov 2nd. We will join the United States of America in celebrating Thanksgiving Day with a Holy Qurbana on Nov 26th at 10:00 AM.
In this month's edition of SMCB Times, we focus on two nuns. Mother Cabrini who is the first Saint from the United States and Sr. Mary Kenneth Keller.
Mother Cabrini was an Italian who came to USA to help and support many of the poor Italian Immigrants. Sr.Mary Keller was a pioneer in Computer Science and is among the first 2 people who earned a Doctorate in Computer Science in US.
Sr. Mary has been an advocate for the involvement of women in computing. The stories and struggles of these nuns are as inspiring as their contributions to society.
It is amazing to see how our Youth and Young Adults express their thoughts and feelings through videos and articles. The video of a day in the life of a college student during this pandemic was wonderful. SMCB Times has given them a great platform to express their thoughts. We want more of our kids, especially our high school kids to participate. I strongly encourage the parents and kids to take advantage of the SMCB High School Reporter Program.
Pinto Achan reflects and implores upon us to give a gift of thanks for this year’s Thanksgiving.
Liturgically we enter the last season of the year. The dedication of the Church, (Pallikoodasa Kaalam) is commemorated on November 1st, during which we remember Jesus offering the sanctified Church to God the Father.
May you find great joy in giving thanks to God for the blessings in your life!
I thank God for all the blessings that He has given to our Parish.
Tony Achan
