One of the initiatives of our CCD program this year has been to provide the Faith Experience to our young children. The primary experience was having the students lead and actively participate in the Stations of The Cross, every Friday. The effects of the two years of virtual worship was evident in many cases. However the students under the guidance of their teachers persevered. Built on the foundation of the Friday worship, Fr. Stephen proposed that the CCD program should conduct the Live Stations of the Cross on Good Friday.
In this article, some of the main actors share their experiences from being part of this enactment. We also bring you behind-the-scenes moments. Scroll down to read about the team who was responsible for the excellent execution of the live enactment!
Acting as Jesus during the Good Friday Passion of the Christ enactment was a very moving experience for me. Although I have learned about the Passion of the Christ before, I feel that this experience helped me understand Jesus’ perspective more, and how truly awful of an experience he had to go through. He was mocked, whipped, stripped and killed for all to see, yet in the end he still forgave all of us.
I think that these actions of the crowd are often reflected in real life, and as Christians we should do our best to stop being bystanders and instead be supportive and caring to one another. I think that portraying Jesus in the Way of the Cross allowed me to understand a lot more about how much he suffered, and I am very thankful as well as sorry for him.
Once the event was over, I was pleasantly surprised to find that people were happy with my performance, and I am very thankful for their thoughts. Overall, it was a great experience and I’m grateful that I could be a major part of it.
I’m very privileged to say that I was able to play Mary for this year's live stations of the cross. At first, it was really hard being able to get into the mindset of Mary and try to invoke the same emotions that she was going through. Anyone who was at practices knows that I couldn’t stop laughing no matter how serious I tried to be. It wasn’t until Good Friday that I was able to fully understand what Mary felt and get into her head space.
I was really happy to be part of the Good Friday live event. By watching the real sufferings and pain Jesus went through, I was able to understand how much Jesus suffered for our own sins. It helped me to understand Jesus's unconditional love to us. It is a reminder for us to not sin again and how powerful forgiveness is.
I am really thankful for being able to participate in the live way of the cross. Although the practice sessions were long and tiring and we faced many challenges during the practices like cold and windy weather, in the end, we all had a lot of fun practicing.
A particular feeling I had was during the actual live station of the cross and when I was whipping, beating, nailing Jesus I always had that twinge of guilt. I would also like to highlight that the whole Live Station Of the Cross made me feel like I was reliving the passion of Christ.
I'm thankful to God for this grace. When I played the role of a soldier, I felt the feeling of Jesus's passion. It also reminded me to have sympathy & kindness towards others in my heart.
Early days of practice.
