Grade 10 Charity Event
A perspective
A perspective
As part of their Grade 10 CCD program. The students of the 10th grade organized a charity drive with the guidance of their teachers Ranit James and Joseph Kunnel. The event was held on May 20th and raised almost $5000. Here are their perspectives.
Joseph uncle first told us about this idea in the middle of the CCD year. At first it was just a concept we had no solid plan or idea of what we were going to do. Then Joseph uncle came up with the idea to have a musical charity event instead of the normal bake sale or raffle. As we got closer to the end of the year we started to take this idea and turned it into an actual plan. We started to coordinate with the Compassionate Hearts to figure out all of the financial aspects of it, while we girls started to plan an actual event. We split it up into 5 parts, announcing, food, decoration, attendance, and advertising. We each took a part and led it but still asked each other and Joseph uncle for help when we needed to. Joseph uncle was approached by the Raindrop band to help out and they coordinated with each to figure out all the music and how the show was going to work out. I know all of us are really proud of the final product because it really brought our community together.
When Uncle Jeff first told us about the school kids in Sudan lacking proper washroom facilities, we felt compelled to help them, even if it was just a small contribution. Initially, our plan consisted of multiple small fundraisers, but as the CCD was coming to an end, we decided to organize a big concert fundraiser. During the planning phase, a Christian band approached Uncle Jeff and expressed their interest in performing at our event. The concert turned out to be a amazing experience! Additionally, we also organized a successful bake sale, which raised a substantial amount of money. Our initial goal was to raise $5,000 for the Sudan kids. However, with the compassionate support of the community, the fundraiser surpassed its target. This collective act of empathy has transformed the lives of the students! A heartfelt thank you goes to Aunt Ranit and everyone who prayed together, Uncle Jeff, the band, Compassionate Hearts, and all those who helped. Without their involvement, none of this would have been possible. Overall, this experience was incredibly enjoyable, and I sincerely hope we can continue doing more to assist others in need!
This charity project was an unforgettable experience. Making such an impact while working alongside the rest of the grade as well as Jeff uncle and Ranit aunty, and also seeing the community unite to contribute was amazing. Even though we were all stressed about executing the concert in the right way that would be enjoyable to the community but also benefit our cause was really tough. We were also very crammed for time. But everyone prayed, did their best and it turned out so much better than we expected! But we couldn’t have done it without the band that came to provide live Christian music for the charity concert we hosted, people who helped with decorations and those who helped bring in food, and everyone who cooked as well. There are so many more people to thank but we really couldn’t have done it without them. I’m so excited to see the improvements that our donations made to the schools and structures in South Sudan and the kids reactions. I feel like that’s the most important part. Thank you to everyone who made this project possible! I hope we can do more like this soon.
When Jeff Uncle first told us about this charity event, I was really confused and I was wondering whether we’re actually gonna be able to pull this off because in the past classes we talked about charity events but we never get to them. The entire experience of this charity event was so life-changing, helping these kids from South Sudan, and planning this charity event with all us five girls was just a crazy experience. I was personally in charge of the music department. so I was in charge of making the mc outline as well as helping the band with whatever they needed. I think that this was a really important thing for us because it really changed our faith as well as inspired us to push ourselves to the limit and help these kids as well as us learning how to plan important events like this music night. I want to thank Jeff Uncle and Ranit auntie for helping us through this journey, and always making sure that we are putting all of our effort into this project. They always had faith in us that we could do this project and help these kids. and in the end we raised enough money to help these kids and we went above our limit, and that shows how important teamwork and prayer is to us.
Jeff uncle introduced this to us about a month or so ago and we had no idea where to start. Eventually with some help from other people we got a lot of donations and people to come which we were very happy about. The success of this event rode on us working as a grade to figure things out, which we did! We were more than capable of handling this project. The band was a nice addition to giving donations separately. An improvement that can be used later on is marketing. We should have marketed ourselves more in order for more people to come, but we should not focus on that because it was definitely a learning experience for us all. In the future I think that we can definitely do more of this fundraiser events. Thanks to Jeff uncle and Ranit aunty for a great year and opportunity!
